The StaCast Project, coordinated by Prof. Bonollo (Padova University) and supported by European Commission (contract n. 319188), is aimed at elaborating new Quality and Design Standards for Aluminium Alloys Cast Products.
The Project, started in October 2012, will terminate on March 2014. In the Project, 4 European Countries are represented, by a highly complementary partnership, constituted by
- one University Dept (DTG, Padova University, Italy) with wide experience in Aluminium alloys processing and characterisation;
- two other University Depts, with a relevant background on gravity (NTNU, Trondheim University, Norway) and high pressure (GTA, Aalen University, Germany) casting technologies;
- one National Association of Metallurgical Companies (Associazione Italiana di Metallurgia);
- the European Association of Aluminium Consumers (FACE, Belgium);
- one member of Italian National Standardisation body (UNIMET).
The challenge of StaCast project is to promote the transformation of the European Aluminium Foundry field in a quality/efficiency-driven and integration-oriented sector, thanks to the development and introduction of two
new and advanced CEN Standards, covering aspects which are not approached in current norms: Casting Defects Classification and Aluminium Foundry Alloys Mechanical Properties.
The status of the Project has been reviewed in Milan, on 25th and 26th of September 2013.
In the next paragraphs, the main achievements and perspectives will be described.
